空中客车(Airbus)新任首席执行长克里斯蒂安•斯特雷夫(Christian Streiff)为A380超大型客机项目任命新的负责人,在空中客车的发展史上留下了自己的印记。这个项目在经历了代价高昂、令人尴尬的数次延迟交付之后,此举是空中客车为使它重回正轨所采取的最新措施。
现年50岁的马里奥•埃南(Mario Heinen)将接替查尔斯•钱皮恩(Charles Champion),后者在这个价值150亿美元的项目于2000年启动后不久就开始担任项目负责人。埃南已经在空中客车工作了七年,最近他主要负责单通道客机的生产。空中客车在一份声明中称,现年51岁的钱皮恩将担任斯特雷夫的“特别顾问”。
在空中客车6月宣布其双层客机A380的发货时间将再次被推迟半年之后,持有其80%股份的欧洲航空防务航天公司(European Aeronautic Defence & Space Co., EADS)任命斯特雷夫自7月2日开始担任该公司的首席执行长。EADS称,延迟发货将使其未来四年的运营利润减少20亿欧元(约合25.7亿美元)。这个利润减少警告导致EADS的股价大幅下挫,并引发了公司管理层相互指责,最终空中客车前首席执行长古斯塔夫•安贝尔(Gustav Humbert)及EADS前联席首席执行长之一诺埃尔•福雅尔(Noel Forgeard)被迫辞职。

对空中客车来说,雪上加霜的是持有其20%股份的英国英宇航系统公司(BAE Systems PLC, BAE)在6月7日正式行使认沽期权,拟将其所持股份出售给EADS。英宇航系统和EADS聘请了投资银行N.M. Rothschild & Sons Ltd.对这部分股份进行估价。但是这家投资银行得出的估价低得出人意料,仅为27.5亿欧元,EADS为收购这部分股份准备的资金甚至都要高于这个金额。BAE最近聘请了独立审计机构对空中客车进行评估,并且将在未来几周内召开特别股东大会就股份出售进行投票表决。BAE的董事会可能不久将向股东们发出建议书,不过BAE的发言人拒绝透露具体时间。
A380项目新任负责人埃南最近一直负责扩大空中客车颇获好评的单通道A320系列飞机的生产。空中客车现在每个月生产约30架A320系列飞机。这种机型是其最畅销的机型,也是支撑其他项目发展的主要现金来源。
与此同时,A380项目工作仍在继续。设计师以及工程师努力解决这个超大型客机的布线问题。周一,474名空中客车雇员扮成乘客搭乘这种有史以来建造的最大型飞机,以对它进行首次长途飞行测试。这样的测试共有四次,主要检验卫生间和换气设施等机舱系统在飞行中的运行情况。
Airbus Names New Head Of A380 Jetliner Program
New Airbus Chief Executive Christian Streiff began putting his mark on the plane maker by replacing the head of its A380 superjumbo-jet program, in a fresh effort to revive the project after costly and embarrassing delays.
Charles Champion, who has run the $15 billion program since soon after its launch in 2000, was succeeded by Mario Heinen, 50 years old. The seven-year Airbus veteran was most recently in charge of building the plane maker’s single-aisle jetliners. Mr. Champion, 51, will become a "special adviser" to Mr. Streiff, who joined the company July 2, Airbus said in a statement.
Mr. Streiff was appointed to Airbus by its 80% shareholder, Franco-German European Aeronautic Defence & Space Co., following the June disclosure by Airbus that the two-deck A380 faced a second production delay of six months. EADS said the delay would cut 2 billion euros, or about $2.57 billion, from its operating profit during the next four years. The profit warning sparked a sharp slide in EADS’s share price and recriminations that led to the forced resignations of Airbus CEO Gustav Humbert and EADS co-CEO Noel Forgeard.
Soon after joining Airbus, Mr. Streiff said he would present his analysis of the situation at the company by the end of this month. Last week he placed a temporary hold on hiring until his analysis is finished. In addition to problems with the A380, Airbus also has been forced into an expensive redesign of its proposed A350 jetliner, a two-engine, long-haul widebody meant to compete with the planned 787 "Dreamliner" from rival Boeing Co.
Adding to Airbus’s woes, Britain’s BAE Systems PLC on June 7 exercised an option to sell its 20% stake in Airbus to EADS. As part of that process, EADS and BAE hired investment bankers N. M. Rothschild & Sons Ltd. to value the stake. Their 2.75 billion euros valuation was surprisingly low, as even EADS had set aside provisions for a higher price. BAE recently commissioned an independent audit of Airbus and in coming weeks will call an extraordinary meeting of shareholders to approve or reject the sale. BAE’s board may soon announce a recommendation, although a BAE spokeswoman declined to comment on timing.
The new A380-program director, Mr. Heinen, has most recently overseen the successful ramp-up in production of planes in the Airbus A320 family. Each month, Airbus now produces about 30 of the single-aisle planes, which are its best-selling jets and main source of cash to fund other programs.
Meanwhile, work on the A380 program is continuing as planners and engineers try to resolve wiring problems on the superjumbo, the largest passenger plane ever built. Yesterday, an A380 with 474 Airbus staff members aboard, acting as passengers, left for the first of four long test flights to check operations of cabin systems such as toilets and ventilation. |
